Here is a simple drawing of a few butterflies you can do easily. All you need are some markers, a pencil, and a piece of paper. Feel free to use different art mediums like watercolor or acrylics to build on this drawing.
To start off, draw some trapezoids to represent the wings of a butterfly. For a front-facing butterfly, draw two connecting trapezoids, and for a side butterfly, draw one trapezoid. Using this guide, draw out the wings and body of the butterfly. The body is three ovals; small, medium, and then large. For the wings, you want to curve out, then come back into the body. Experiments with different shapes to find your liking.
Next, create a border inside each of the wings. This will be the black parts you see on a butterfly wing. Using a black pen, outline the entire butterfly, adding some antenna to the head. Take the pen and create the lines inside the wings. I then used a thicker pen to fill in the black border of the wings.
Now to add some color the wings. I decide to go with a nice blue, so I used three different shades of blue to create an ombre effect. Some other color patterns can be three different colors or a rainbow. Starting with the lightest blue, I colored in the wings, leaving the part that was closer to the body white. Using the darkest blue, I colored in the edges of the wings. With the middle shade of blue, I blended the two other shades together to create the gradient effect.
These butterflies were a quick drawing that I had fun doing, so be sure to try them out and share some photos!
